Richard D. Granstein, MD
Welcome to the website of the Department of Dermatology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Our department provides state-of-the-art care for patients with dermatologic conditions requiring medical or surgical intervention. Our world-class faculty focuses attention on patient care, teaching, and research.
As clinicians, our ultimate mission is kind and compassionate patient care. In 2004, the Department of Dermatology treated over 20,000 patients, and the true measure of our value is our technical superiority and the excellent outcomes that provide real hope to our patients.
As part of a world-class medical institution that is ranked 7th on the Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, we also have a mission in education. The faculty are intimately involved with the education of medical students, residents, and local clinicians pursuing continuing medical education.
The Department of Dermatology also has an active research arm whose goal is to further the understanding of the physiology of the skin, its relation to other organ systems of the body and, most especially, promote and allow for new approaches to the treatment of disease. Our scientific endeavors focus on regulation of immune processes within the skin, and on augmenting host immunity against malignant tumors using gene therapy approaches. These projects are funded primarily by NIH grants, but also with significant support from industry, foundations and private contributions.
Thank you for your interest in the Department of Dermatology. We welcome you to our web site and invite you to contact us directly if you need further information. Here you will find information here about our clinical, research and educational activities, as well as the many dermatological conditions and diseases we treat.
